Welcome - It has come up frequently in the past week while working with my patients, the importance of skin care beginning from within. As I have recommended making lifestyle changes such as drinking more water (at least 1/2 of your body weight a day in ounces of water), drinking little to preferably no soda (diet or regular), coffee and caffeine beverages, and avoiding all fast food and processed foods, that the patient has responded with “My dermatologist says it doesn’t matter what you eat or drink.” Since the patient has already tried the dermatologist’s approach to treating acne, I will usually respond that I am not the dermatologist, and that from my experience have learned and firmly believe that the skin (the major organ of our body) is most definitely effected by everything we eat and drink, by rest or lack of it, etc. Not only will making these changes bring about a positive change in the health of the skin, but also in the overall health and well-being of the individual. I realize that making these lifestyle changes are quite difficult. I myself have experienced the challenges associated with attempting to do this in our very “fast-paced and busy” world. I can state with all conviction that in the long run it is well worth all of the effort.
In fact, committed to the continual improvement and management of my own good health, I am beginning a ten (10) day cleansing fast tomorrow. Using fiber, lemons, pure maple syrup and distilled water, I will make every effort to clean toxins from my skin and body overall. By no means is this an easy task as it has been over seven (7) years since I last detoxed for ten (10) days. I have done a few three to five (3-5) day fasts during this time and they were beneficial.
I decided that beginning the blog at this time would be a great way of keeping motivated. I will let you know along the way how it goes.
Blessings,
Kathleen
