I have had quite a few patients coming in at the last minute to get their skin clear for a special function such as prom, wedding, etc. I would highly recommend that anyone with troubled skin get a good partnership established with a skin care specialist as far out as possible, in order to prepare for a special event.
Without doubt, one usually is under quite a bit of stress as a special event approaches. It is very helpful to have a good relationship established with your skin care specialist so that they are able if nothing else to “talk” you through and encourage you to stick to a good skin care regime. This includes encouraging you to keep a healthy diet, to drinking a good amount of water, and to get the rest needed for your skin and your overall health to handle the demands and challenges of the added “pre-event” stress.
Getting and keeping your skin healthy well in advance of a special event also allows you to focus on the last minute details, and one of them should not be “troubled” skin.

Kathleen

I did complete the detox with great results. I did not go the entire ten (10) days. We had out of town guests and out of courtesy to them I decided to complete the detox early - eight (8) days. It is definitely very difficult to carry out a detox of any great length. Our crazy, busy world does not cooperate with the necessary rest one should take during a detox process.
I usually recommend to the patients to begin where they are able - cut back some on the “junk” food and try to drink more water each day. Every little bit helps and after a while you feel so good that the “junk” is not tempting.
I felt great after the detox but this last week found me facing a great deal of stress. The stress did a lot of damage against that “great” feeling of well being. So, today, I am concentrating on a mini detox - lots of water - some lemon in the water - and taking little breaks to stretch and deep breathe. I am fortunate that the stress does not increase my desire for “junk” food and so my skin still looks great in spite of the stress. I find in working with the patients that many times when they are under going extreme stress they also tend to forget to drink water and reach for the junk food - and all of these are usually reflected in breakouts and flares of their acne.
So - I would encourage everyone - Keep trying to do your best with diet and water - get some rest - and enjoy each day!
Blessings!!! Kathleen

In am now almost finished with the 5th day of the 10 day detox. All is going well. I do not have any cravings. I have plenty of energy and have been working every day. I have been able to prepare meals for my husband, as well as baked fresh milled grain, chocolate chip cookies for him yesterday, and fresh milled grain banana muffins for a friend today. The next challenge will be getting through the weekend - we are attending a 2 year olds birthday party tomorrow. I am sure everyone will try to encourage me to eat. I hope to remain true to the detox.
A wonderful weekend to everyone!!!
Blessings,
Kathleen

Welcome - It has come up frequently in the past week while working with my patients, the importance of skin care beginning from within. As I have recommended making lifestyle changes such as drinking more water (at least 1/2 of your body weight a day in ounces of water), drinking little to preferably no soda (diet or regular), coffee and caffeine beverages, and avoiding all fast food and processed foods, that the patient has responded with “My dermatologist says it doesn’t matter what you eat or drink.” Since the patient has already tried the dermatologist’s approach to treating acne, I will usually respond that I am not the dermatologist, and that from my experience have learned and firmly believe that the skin (the major organ of our body) is most definitely effected by everything we eat and drink, by rest or lack of it, etc. Not only will making these changes bring about a positive change in the health of the skin, but also in the overall health and well-being of the individual. I realize that making these lifestyle changes are quite difficult. I myself have experienced the challenges associated with attempting to do this in our very “fast-paced and busy” world. I can state with all conviction that in the long run it is well worth all of the effort.
In fact, committed to the continual improvement and management of my own good health, I am beginning a ten (10) day cleansing fast tomorrow. Using fiber, lemons, pure maple syrup and distilled water, I will make every effort to clean toxins from my skin and body overall. By no means is this an easy task as it has been over seven (7) years since I last detoxed for ten (10) days. I have done a few three to five (3-5) day fasts during this time and they were beneficial.
I decided that beginning the blog at this time would be a great way of keeping motivated. I will let you know along the way how it goes.
Blessings,
Kathleen
